We’ve all driven past a house that makes us double take for the wrong reasons, but what about the homes that make us stare for all of the right ones?
Whether you’re settling into your new home or looking to uproot and move on, the vibe your house gives off makes all the difference.
Here’s ten things to add to your curb appeal checklist:
- Clean paving, paths and doorsteps with a pressure washer and refresh large areas of concrete and block-paving.
- Trim back vegetation from walls, gates and paths and give the grass a good cut and maybe a weed and feed.
- Clear the cracks between paved paths and drives with a douse of weed killer and smarten up the edge of paths and flower beds to give a crisp finish.
- Refresh gravelled areas with a top up of similar stone to revamp dwindling paths and driveways
- Invest in storage areas to hide bins, bikes and equipment that doesn’t have a place inside. Paint the storage the same colour as your front door to add a cohesive look and feel.
- Clean and repaint doors, gates and windows. Looking for a revamp? Choose colours such as pillar box red or racing green for traditional townhouses, muted sage greens and greys for a contemporary twist to older properties and neutral blacks and whites for modern homes.
- Update your front door with new hardware, changing the house number, door knocker, letter plates or letterbox and maybe even the doorbell. Choose a modern brushed nickel effect or polished brass for period charm.
- Add potted plants or trees that are durable enough to use outside all year round and evergreen foliage for a classic look. Hanging baskets are great for adding interest at eye level.
- Spruce your doorstep by removing clutter, deep cleaning and refreshing any paint. Choose a new doormat to add a big impact for a small cost.
- Light up your porch and driveway. Outdoor lights look fab on dark evenings, so choose a new fitting if you have an outdoor power supply or opt for solar-powered wall lights for easy installation and zero cost to run.
