So you’ve chosen your Postland Home, contracts have been exchanged and the completion date is looming.
Whether you’re choosing a removals company to help ease the load, or are taking the DIY route, here are some hacks to help moving day go smoothly:
- Seal the drawers
Instead of emptying out your drawers and packing them in boxes, put plastic wrap over the drawers to stop contents spilling out. Stack them or keep them in the cabinetry for a quick unpacking at the other end.
- Use disposable cutlery and crockery
Prepare a move day basket with disposable plates, cups and cutlery so you can eat and dispose quickly without clean up. Include tea, coffee, water bottles, a kettle, tea towels and cloths, toilet rolls, bin bags and spray so you have the essentials to hand.
- Have a folder with essentials
Have important documents, ID, notepads, chargers, pens, tape and screwdrivers to hand.
- Create a priority list
Write a list to remember the priorities on move day. Things like remembering to take a meter reading and setting up the bedroom’s first. Write it down to give you focus and clarity.
- Use Amazon Prime and do an online food shop
Arrange for a delivery of any essentials/extras to come to your new home on move day (hello Amazon Prime) and schedule an online food shop to come the next day.
- Put the room name on the box
Label boxes with the contents of the box as well as the room it belongs in.
- Colour code as you pack
Colour code each box according to room so you can identify what needs to go where at a glance. Print out a floorplan for people to follow on the day and add a coloured sticker to each room door to help people know what goes where (without you having to say).
- Pack books and heavy items in suitcases with wheels
- Group clothes together
Use elastic bands to group 8-10 hangers together and cover the clothing with a bin liner (which can be reused). You won’t have to fold and can hang them immediately at the other end.
- Prepare overnight bags
Pack each person an overnight bag with pyjamas, toiletries, spare clothes and towels to make it super easy to locate essential items in the craziness of the move.
